When growing up, we are told that we are supposed to know what we want to do with our lives and what career path to follow. Sometimes we may not have answers to everybody’s questions; we may even have the ‘wrong’ answers. Many people say that the best thing to do when you are not sure of what to do with your life is to find your passion. When we find our passion, something that we are skilled in as well as enjoy to do, why take it for granted? Not only does it enables all our chances to get into a good university, but also can land us a job which we enjoy to do. However, is following our passion always the best move?

Before figuring out how to pursue our dreams, how do we know what we are passionate about? Well, we could ask ourselves; What do we love to do most? What hobby did we develop but never consider a possible career choice? The hobbies we have whether it would be reading books, writing stories, making movies, or using Lego’s building blocks to create a town, could be considered possible. You could turn your love for movies and become an actor or filmmaker, the same way you could turn your love of playing with Lego’s and become an engineer or architect. If you’ve already figured out what your hobby is, you’re one step ahead of everyone else. Use it to your advantage. The only thing left to figure out is how to make money by pursuing your passion.

Although, being passionate about something does not necessarily mean that it will lead to happiness on the job. There is a clear difference between following our dreams and being practical. We all want to be able to become financially stable and provide for our family; but if your passion cannot guarantee that, then try to find something that will. This does not mean that you should let go of your passions; rather than letting go, try and fit it into your career in any way possible. You should be able to work in a job that you like to do instead of working at something you have no interest in. However, keep in mind that your job doesn’t have to be forever. If you find yourself miserable at work, even if it’s work you’re passionate about, a change of job, or even of profession, may be in order.

Yes, finding our passion is extremely necessary. I mean, who would want to work in a job which makes them unhappy? Losing sight of our ambitions and dreams will leave us uninspired, which, in turn, will affect both our professional and personal life. To prevent an unhappy lifestyle, there are ways to try and turn our passions into a career. When doing something we love and enjoy, it makes us have complete interest in our job and the outcomes. It also betters our performances. Just remember to never give up. Keep trying, and try again, until you succeed. Success doesn’t come easy, so giving up early is a sure way to fail. Keep trying, and you’ll get there.
